Editorial & Technical Review Standards

How we research, write, technically review, and update the engineering guides and tools on EngineersUniverse — and how we keep them accurate.

Who creates our content

Our guides, calculators, and reference material are produced by the EngineersUniverse editorial team — engineers and technical writers who work across electrical, mechanical/HVAC, fire & life safety, structural, civil, networks, and controls. Content draws on hands-on engineering practice and the governing codes and standards for each discipline.

How we research and write

Every guide is grounded in the primary code or standard that governs the topic — for example the NEC (NFPA 70), NFPA 13/20/72, ASHRAE 62.1/90.1, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, IEEE, ISA/IEC 62443, and TIA-568, among others. We cite the specific article, section, or edition where it matters, and we favor explaining the underlying engineering reasoning over rote rules so the guidance transfers to real projects.

Technical review

Content is reviewed for technical and code accuracy before publication and is re-checked when a referenced standard is revised. Where an article has received a dedicated technical review, the reviewer is named in the byline. We treat code editions explicitly — adoption varies by jurisdiction, so we note which edition a statement is based on.

Keeping content current

Codes and standards change on multi-year cycles. We revisit guides as new editions are adopted and update the “last reviewed” date shown on the article when we make a substantive revision. We do not bump dates without a real review — a publish or review date on our site reflects actual work on that page.

Corrections

If you find an error, an outdated code reference, or anything unclear, tell us at support@engineersuniverse.com. We correct verified errors promptly and, for anything material, note the change on the page.

Use of AI

We use software tooling — including AI — to assist with research, drafting, and consistency. AI-assisted material is reviewed by a human against the governing standards before it is published; we do not publish unreviewed machine output as engineering guidance.

Independence & disclosure

Our educational content is editorially independent. EngineersUniverse also builds professional engineering apps and tools, and some pages link to them or to third-party products; those links never change our technical guidance. Our calculators and guides are provided free for learning and preliminary work.

Not a substitute for a licensed professional

EngineersUniverse is an educational resource. Our content supports learning, exam preparation, and preliminary analysis — it is not stamped engineering and does not replace the judgment of a licensed Professional Engineer or the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). Verify all work against the adopted code and have final designs reviewed and sealed by a qualified professional.
