QR Code Generator

Turn any text or URL into a downloadable QR code. Generated locally in your browser.

About the QR Code Generator

This free tool turns any text, URL, phone number, or other short string into a scannable QR code. Everything is generated locally in your browser — no data is sent to a server, and there's no limit on how many codes you create.

How QR codes work

A QR (Quick Response) code is a two-dimensional barcode that encodes data as a grid of black and white squares. Unlike a traditional 1D barcode, it can hold hundreds of characters and be read from any angle. Built-in Reed-Solomon error correction lets it still scan correctly even if part of the code is damaged, dirty, or covered by a logo.

Choosing an error correction level

Higher error correction (Q or H) makes the code more resilient to damage or obstruction, at the cost of a denser, more complex pattern that can be harder to scan from far away or on a small print. Level M (15% recovery) is a good default for most uses; use H if you plan to overlay a logo.

Static vs. dynamic QR codes

This tool generates a static QR code — your text or URL is encoded directly into the pattern, so it works forever and doesn't rely on any third-party redirect service staying online. Dynamic QR codes (offered by some paid services) route through a short link you can edit later, but that means the code stops working if the service shuts down.

Frequently asked questions

Is this QR code generator free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on codes generated. Everything renders locally in your browser.

Do QR codes expire?

No — this generates a static QR code with your data encoded directly into the pattern, so it never expires and doesn't depend on an external service.

What is the error correction level for?

It adds redundancy so the code still scans if partially damaged or obscured. Higher levels (Q, H) tolerate more damage but create a denser pattern.

Can I put a logo in the middle?

This tool doesn't overlay a logo automatically, but you can add one afterward in image-editing software — use error correction level Q or H first so the code stays scannable.
