Virtual SCADA Lab

Explore an industrial water facility, inspect 35 equipment groups, follow signal paths, operate pumps and level control, and investigate alarms and supervisory communication failures.

About this tool — how it works & FAQ

About the Virtual SCADA Lab

A detailed, interactive water-treatment facility connects field instrumentation, PLC panels, drives, industrial networking, a control room and a remote outstation. Explore the geometry and operate an explicit teaching model of source and storage inventory, pump delivery and level control.

Explore the complete facility

Inspect 35 selectable equipment groups and 26 illustrated signal connections. Orbit, pan and zoom with mouse or touch; double-tap equipment to recenter. Camera presets include process yard, panels, control room, remote station, floor level, plan and elevation. Use orthographic projection, labels, roof/cabinet cutaway, panel explosion, area and equipment filters, search, and keyboard or on-screen camera movement.

Live connection reference

Open Connection schematic for all 35 equipment groups and 52 functional links across the process yard, control panel, control room and remote station. Trace water flow, analog and discrete I/O, rack data, motor/control power, Ethernet and radio. Filter by area or link type, highlight a component and its neighbors, zoom/pan or open the full sheet. Selection focuses the same 3D equipment. Local field values remain distinct from sampled SCADA readings and their quality/age; contextual treatment, UPS and remote links are explicitly marked.

Coordinated HMI and troubleshooting

Use the side-by-side operator HMI to run or stop pumps, select duty A or B after stopping, choose manual speed or automatic level PI, adjust valve opening, setpoint, supply and demand, then inspect live I/O and trends. Inject lost supervisory communications, a bad level signal, motor overload or blocked discharge. Emergency-stop and control-power controls exercise start permissives and trip recovery. The process mimic and 3D selection share the same model, with matching equipment colors and steady status indicators. Local control is independent of the supervisory link; stale SCADA readings retain their last sample and timestamp. Alarm acknowledgment never resets a trip or starts a pump.

Learn the system end to end

Four guided tours, five experiments, eight knowledge checks, an equipment report, local workspace settings, trend CSV export and a teaching Modbus register map connect the visible plant to its control signals. The model runs only in the browser and has no connection to real devices.

Model boundaries

This is a simplified water-inventory and control model, not a hydraulic-network solver, production PLC, cybersecurity test environment or certified safety system. Flow and pressure relationships are illustrative. Treatment chemistry, remote-asset dynamics, redundancy and UPS runtime are not solved. All generic equipment is illustrative and not to scale.

Frequently asked questions

Can local PLC control continue when SCADA loses communication?

Yes. In this model, local PLC level control continues during supervisory-link loss. SCADA values freeze with STALE quality and an increasing sample age; remote commands are rejected. Local panel commands remain available while control power and process permissives are healthy.

Does acknowledging an alarm restart the pump?

No. Acknowledgment records awareness. Remove the fault, restore permissives, reset the latched trip and issue a separate Start command.

Does the explorer work on phones and tablets?

The interface supports touch orbit, pinch zoom and two-finger pan, plus on-screen camera controls and an accessible equipment list. Small screens stack the operating panels below the 3D view. A modern WebGL browser is required for 3D.
