Construction Quantity Takeoff Tool

Line Items · Category Subtotals · CSV Export

Manual takeoff, built for speed: Add each line item you measure off the drawing set — description, category, unit of measure, quantity, and an optional unit cost. The list groups and subtotals by category automatically and rolls up to a grand total (and estimated cost, if unit costs are entered). Edit or delete any row, then export the full takeoff table to CSV for your estimate.

Construction Quantity Takeoff Tool

A manual-entry construction quantity takeoff tool for building up a line-item estimate straight from a drawing set. Add a description, category, unit of measure, quantity, and an optional unit cost for each item you measure — the tool groups items by category, subtotals each category, and rolls everything up to a grand total (with estimated cost once unit costs are entered). Edit or delete any row and export the finished takeoff to CSV.

How It Works

Enter a description for each item (e.g. "4″ concrete slab on grade" or "aluminum storefront window unit"), pick a category (Concrete, Steel, Framing, Drywall, Doors & Windows, Finishes, MEP, Electrical, Plumbing, Sitework, or Other), choose a unit of measure (SF, LF, CY, CF, SY, EA, LB, TON, GAL, HR), and enter the quantity you measured. Unit cost is optional — leave it blank to build a pure quantity list, or fill it in to get an extended cost per item, a category subtotal, and a grand total estimate.

Why Group by Category

Real construction estimates are almost always organized by trade or CSI-style division rather than as one flat list, because that is how subcontractor bids, material orders, and schedule-of-values line items get assembled. Grouping by category as you enter items keeps the running takeoff organized the same way a formal estimate would be, and makes it easy to spot a missing scope item (for example, no doors/windows line on a project that clearly has openings) before the list goes out for pricing.

From Takeoff to Estimate

This tool produces the quantities and (optionally) the extended costs — the inputs a preliminary conceptual or schematic-level estimate needs. It does not apply waste factors, labor productivity rates, general conditions, overhead & profit, or market escalation; a full estimate layers those on top of the raw quantities. Export to CSV to bring the takeoff into a spreadsheet where those additional factors and markups can be applied.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool measure quantities directly off a PDF or CAD drawing?

No — this is a manual-entry tool. You measure or count quantities yourself (from a plan set, Revit schedule, or on-site walk) and enter them as line items; the tool handles the organization, category subtotals, and grand total math, not the measurement itself.

What happens if I don't enter a unit cost?

Unit cost is optional. If you leave it blank (or zero) for every item, the grand total displays as a dash and the list functions as a pure quantity takeoff. As soon as any line item has a unit cost, category subtotals and the grand total switch to showing estimated dollar amounts.

Can I mix units within one category, like SF and LF concrete items?

Yes — each line item carries its own unit of measure, so a Concrete category can include a slab measured in SF alongside a footing measured in LF. The category subtotal sums extended cost (quantity × unit cost) rather than raw quantity, so mixed units in the same category never get added together incorrectly.

Is my takeoff data saved if I leave the page?

This tool keeps your takeoff in the browser tab only — it is not saved to an account or server. Export to CSV before navigating away or closing the tab if you want to keep the data.
