Is BIM just 3D CAD software?

No. BIM is a discipline and workflow built around one shared, data-rich model where every element (a wall, a duct, a beam) knows its own properties — material, cost, fire rating, and so on — and every drawing is a live view generated from that single model. Traditional CAD produces separate 2D or 3D drawings that have to be manually kept consistent with each other. The software (Revit, for example) is just the tool; BIM is the underlying process and data structure it enables.

What is LOD in BIM and why does it matter?

LOD (Level of Development) is a standardized scale, typically LOD 100 through LOD 500, that defines how much detail and reliable information a model element contains at a given project stage — from a rough conceptual shape up to a verified as-built element. LOD matters because it sets clear expectations for what a model can be relied on for at each phase, so teams don't extract final quantities or dimensions from a model that hasn't been developed to that level of detail yet.

What is the difference between a BIM Manager and a BIM Coordinator?

A BIM Manager typically works at the firm or company level, setting modeling standards, software deployment, and BIM execution plan policy across all projects. A BIM Coordinator works at the individual project level, running day-to-day model coordination and clash detection, chairing coordination meetings between disciplines, and tracking issues through to resolution.
