The structure of the IEC 62443 series, security levels (SL 0-4), and how the standard formalizes the zones-and-conduits model.
IEC 62443 is the reference standard for industrial automation and control system (IACS) security, and it formalizes much of what Module 3 covers conceptually — zones, conduits, and security levels — into an auditable framework. This module works through the series structure (general, policies & procedures, system, and component parts), the security-level (SL 0-4) concept and how a target SL is selected per zone, and how the standard's risk-based approach differs from a one-size-fits-all compliance checklist.
By the end of this module you should be able to map a zone's target security level to the specific technical and procedural requirements it implies — the reference framework Module 14's manufacturing-plant segmentation project applies directly to a real facility design.
