Real Project: Hospital Medical Gas & Plumbing System

A 24-bed hospital wing case study — NFPA 99 medical gas outlet count and pipe sizing with a worked diversity-factor calculation, bulk liquid oxygen and cylinder-manifold reserve sourcing, redundant medical air and vacuum equipment, three-tier alarm requirements, and the wing's parallel domestic plumbing design.

The project brief: a hospital is adding a 24-bed medical-surgical wing across two floors, plus 4 outpatient treatment rooms and 1 minor procedure room, requiring both an ordinary domestic plumbing system and a full NFPA 99 Category 1 medical gas and vacuum system — oxygen, medical air, vacuum, and WAGD where anesthetizing agents are actually administered.

This module walks the whole design the way a real medical gas-certified plumbing engineer would: outlet counting by room type, a worked pipe-sizing calculation carried through a diversity factor and pressure-driven gas expansion, the case for bulk liquid oxygen as primary source with a cylinder manifold as automatic-changeover reserve, 2x100% redundant medical air and vacuum equipment, and the three-tier master/area/zone alarm structure NFPA 99 requires.
