Professional Engineering Practice

The PE licensure path from EIT to PE (and SE licensure in some states), the engineer of record's scope of responsibility, what stamping and sealing drawings legally means, standard of care and professional liability, and professional ethics in structural design.

Everything this program has covered — design, construction administration, forensic troubleshooting — sits inside a licensure and liability framework that determines who is legally accountable for it, and this module makes that framework explicit. It works through the licensure path from an ABET-accredited degree through the FE exam, the EIT designation, qualifying experience, and the PE exam, including the separate, more rigorous SE licensure some states require for higher-risk structures, and why a PE license's authority is jurisdiction-specific rather than a credential that automatically travels between states.

By the end of this module you should be able to explain what a PE seal actually represents legally, why the standard of care is a reasonableness benchmark rather than a promise of perfection, and why the ethical core of this profession — never certifying work that wasn't actually checked — is the same underlying discipline this program's construction administration and structural-failure modules keep returning to from their own side of the problem.
