A Hazard and Operability study is the most widely used process hazard analysis method precisely because it's systematic rather than dependent on any one reviewer's experience. This module works through the standard guide words (NO, MORE, LESS, REVERSE, and more) applied to process parameters, how a P&ID is divided into study nodes with a clearly stated design intent, the multidisciplinary team and facilitator discipline a real HAZOP requires, and how findings get documented and tracked to closure — including when a finding should hand off to a LOPA study instead.
HAZOP is performed directly against the P&ID from Module 13 and its findings feed the PSM and LOPA framework from Module 14 — and it recurs throughout a plant's life via Module 16's management of change process, not just once at initial design.
