Pump Stations

Booster stations vs. wastewater lift stations, matching a pump to a system curve, wet well sizing and lead/lag control, and the N+1 redundancy and backup-power practices that keep a station reliable.

A pump cannot be selected in isolation from the system it pushes against — its real operating point emerges from where its own head-flow curve intersects the specific system curve it is installed on. This module works through a fully worked system-curve intersection and a VFD affinity-law speed-trim calculation, then covers why wastewater lift stations need non-clog pumps and solids-aware wet wells that a clean-water booster station does not, and why backup power is treated with far more urgency at a lift station than at a booster station of comparable size.

By the end of this module you should be able to explain why running a pump far from its best efficiency point causes real long-term wear, and why an N+1 redundancy check is always run against the station's single largest pump, not an average one.
