Infrastructure Design

Design standards and criteria for water/wastewater infrastructure, design life and capacity planning for future growth, redundancy and materials selection, and coordination with roadway and other civil disciplines.

This module covers the layer above analysis: the design standards, capacity planning, and coordination decisions that turn a correct calculation into buildable, permittable, durable infrastructure. It covers which standards actually govern when national, state, and local requirements conflict, why design life differs sharply between buried pipe and mechanical equipment, N+1 redundancy for critical process units, materials selection against site-specific corrosivity, and the utility-corridor and roadway coordination that prevents avoidable redesign and conflict.

By the end of this module you should be able to size a piece of infrastructure using the same five considerations a real trunk sewer design requires at once — governing standard, growth horizon, materials, coordination, and construction sequencing — the framework Module 18's real-project case studies apply directly.
