EV Charging Infrastructure

Charging levels (L1/L2/DCFC), connector standards, NEC 625 electrical service sizing for charger banks, load management and demand response, and the site design considerations that determine whether a station actually gets used.

EV charging infrastructure sits at the intersection of vehicle engineering, electrical code compliance, and everyday site design. This module builds the foundation the rest of this program's EV-related content assumes: how Level 1, Level 2, and DC fast charging actually differ at the hardware level, why the J1772/CCS1/CHAdeMO/NACS connector landscape is mid-transition right now, how NEC Article 625 sizes a branch circuit or a charger bank, and why load management is what makes a realistic electrical service size possible in the first place.

By the end of this module you should be able to explain why a facility with dozens of chargers doesn't need a service sized for the sum of every charger's nameplate rating — a load-management concept this module introduces from the electrical side, and one Module 13's financial analysis content returns to from the demand-charge side.
