Utility-scale power system work runs on a different standards framework than the NEC-driven building-systems work this studio's sibling program covers: the NESC and each interconnecting utility's own design standards govern generation, transmission, and distribution equipment, while IEEE's C37, C57, 519, 80, and 1547 series function as a shared professional vocabulary across the industry, and IEC 61850 and IEC 60909 matter the moment a project crosses into international or multinational practice.

This module walks through the professional practice layer that sits on top of the calculations: why protection philosophies differ deliberately between utilities and equipment classes, how to write a design report and equipment specification for a reviewer who was never in the room, what Factory and Site Acceptance Testing each actually verify and why FAT catches manufacturing defects cheaply while SAT catches integration problems FAT cannot, and how construction administration and formal engineering change management keep a design's documentation trustworthy long after the project team has moved on.
