Real Project: Combined-Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant

A 2x1 combined-cycle plant — two gas turbine generators, two HRSGs, one shared steam turbine generator, roughly 630 MW gross — the only project in this program that has to solve its own startup power problem before it can generate a single watt.

The project brief: a 2x1 combined-cycle plant pairing two 220 MVA gas turbine generators, each with its own triple-pressure reheat HRSG, feeding a single shared 260 MVA steam turbine generator — roughly 605 MW net at ~58% LHV efficiency, interconnecting at 230kV through three dedicated generator step-up transformers, each behind its own IEEE C37.013 generator circuit breaker.

This module walks the full project: the 2x1 heat-recovery basis linking topping and bottoming cycles, a worked generator fault-current and GSU sizing calculation that drives generator circuit breaker selection, normal/startup/black-start auxiliary power distribution, protection philosophy differences between the gas turbine and steam turbine generators, grid synchronization limits and sequencing, and a full commissioning and startup sequence including the HRSG steam blow.
