Codes: The NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEMA, and UL Stack

Why each of these five standards bodies exists, what problem it uniquely solves, how they interact on a real project, and the design decisions each one drives — not memorization, engineering judgment.

Module 5 treated the NEC as a constraint on the design choices you were already making. This module goes underneath that: why the NEC is a safety floor and not a design manual, how IEEE standards supply the engineering calculation methods (arc flash, short circuit, transformer performance) the code assumes you already have, and how NFPA 70E and NFPA 110 govern workplace safety and emergency-power performance in ways the NEC itself never touches.

It also covers NEMA's manufacturing-interchangeability standards and UL's testing and listing system that turns a design choice into a verifiable fact an inspector can check — then walks a single worked example (a standby generator serving a fire pump) where all five layers apply at once, and closes with how to resolve conflicts when they disagree.
