Construction & Documentation Practice

Specifications, submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, field observation, commissioning, and punch lists — the construction-side process that connects a stamped design to a working, documented, as-built system.

Modules 4 through 9 covered producing a stamped, code-compliant design. This module covers what happens after that design is issued for construction: what the engineer of record actually produces, reviews, and is responsible for at each stage of building it — and, just as importantly, where that responsibility legally ends and the contractor's own means-and-methods responsibility begins.

None of this is paperwork bolted onto "real" engineering. A design that never gets correctly submitted-on, questioned through RFIs, observed in the field, commissioned, and closed out with accurate as-builts is a design that frequently ends up different from what was intended — with no record left to prove it either way once the project team has moved on, which is exactly the situation Module 10's troubleshooting work often has to untangle years later.
