Fire Alarm Installation

Wiring methods, device mounting practices, labeling, and commissioning — the module that turns a completed design into a working, inspectable system in the field.

A design that's correct on paper still has to survive contact with a real building. This module covers power-limited fire alarm (PLFA) cable selection and how a survivability requirement from Module 6 turns into a specific cable product or protection method, plus the handful of device-mounting details — smoke detector setback from diffusers, pull station path-of-egress placement, strobe mounting height and spacing — that account for most "the design was fine but the field install failed inspection" stories.

It also draws a clear line between rough-in testing (a contractor quality-control step, done cheaply before drywall goes up) and commissioning (where panel programming meets design intent, and every interfaced system — sprinklers, elevator recall, HVAC shutdown, smoke control — gets integration-tested against the Sequence of Operations sheet built in Module 8). Formal, witnessed acceptance testing itself is a distinct step covered in full in Module 11.
