Fire Alarm Testing & Commissioning

How a completed, programmed installation becomes a system formally placed in service — 100% acceptance testing, AHJ witness testing, integration-tested commissioning, and the closeout package every future inspection is measured against.

Modules 9 and 10 got the system installed and programmed. This module is the formal transition from a completed installation to a system placed in service: functional testing of 100% of installed devices under NFPA 72 Chapter 14, a witnessed test the AHJ actually signs off on, and commissioning — integration-testing every interfaced system (sprinkler monitoring, elevator recall, HVAC shutdown, smoke control, access control, mass notification) against the Sequence of Operations sheet built in Module 8.

By the end of this module you should be able to run a witnessed acceptance test with clean, defensible documentation, isolate a commissioning failure to the right trade instead of guessing, and assemble a closeout package that holds up as the baseline for every periodic inspection covered in Module 12 — a genuinely different job from the ongoing inspection/maintenance cycle that module covers.
