Fire Alarm Panel Programming

Device addressing, zone assignment, cause-and-effect logic, delays, cross-zoning, verification, and how supervisory and trouble signals get configured — the module that turns a completed installation into a correctly behaving system.

A fully wired, fully addressed system still does nothing correctly until it's programmed. This module walks through that programming step in the order a technician actually works it: assigning each device's SLC address to match the as-built device schedule, grouping addressed devices into logical zones distinct from their physical wiring, and turning Module 8's Sequence of Operations table into real if-this-then-that logic inside the panel.

It closes with the programming-level detail behind three features that are easy to describe in the abstract but easy to misconfigure in practice: AND/OR device-group logic and NFPA 72's limits on delays, cross-zoning as a concrete coincidence-detection configuration, and the difference between alarm verification and Positive Alarm Sequence — plus how the panel is configured to tell alarm, supervisory, and trouble signals apart at the point level.
