Refrigeration Systems: the Vapor-Compression Cycle in Practice

Refrigerants, compressors, evaporators, condensers, metering devices, refrigerant piping and oil management, and the charging procedures a technician actually runs in the field.

Where Module 6 covered moving heating and cooling energy as water, this module covers the machine that actually produces the cooling effect in the first place: the vapor-compression cycle, run by every DX rooftop unit, split system, VRF system, and chiller in this program. It starts with the four-process cycle and refrigerant properties, then works through the compressor families and capacity-control methods that turn that cycle into real, adjustable equipment.

From there it covers evaporator and condenser performance (superheat, subcooling, and approach temperature), the three families of metering devices and why each is charged differently, refrigerant piping and oil management, and the field charging and diagnostic procedures that tie the whole cycle back to a working system.
