Mechanical Power Transmission: From Motor Shaft to Driven Load

Couplings, belt drives, chain drives, gearboxes, and shaft alignment — the full chain that carries power from a motor to a load, and why every link trades speed for torque.

This module walks the same short chain almost every rotating machine relies on: a coupling to the first driven component, then a belt, chain, or gear stage that trades the motor's natural speed for the torque the load actually needs, worked through the real power relationship — P = T × ω — that governs every stage of it. Belt friction limits, chain chordal action, gearbox mesh efficiency, and worm-gear self-locking are each covered with the actual numbers a design review checks, not just the name of the phenomenon.

It closes on shaft alignment, where every upstream selection — coupling torque rating, belt tension, gearbox bearing capacity — either survives or fails in the field, which is exactly where Module 13's reliability work and Module 16's troubleshooting both pick this chain back up.
