A mechatronic machine that works on the bench, tuned by one engineer who understands every workaround built into it, is not yet an engineering deliverable — it is a prototype with a due date. This module works through the chain of professional practice that makes it one: requirements captured precisely enough to design against, an architecture chosen deliberately, hazards identified and reduced through the hierarchy of controls, safety functions engineered to a stated Performance Level or SIL, and design decisions reviewed by someone other than the engineer who made them.
The module closes with the verification chain that proves the machine actually meets its own requirements: Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing, a deliberate commissioning sequence from mechanical checkout through full-speed production, and the technical documentation discipline — including Management of Change — that keeps the record true for the life of the machine, the same record Module 15's troubleshooting method and Module 18's documentation kit both depend on.
