Network Infrastructure

Designing the IP network that cameras and access control devices actually run on: hierarchical network architecture, VLAN segmentation that isolates security traffic from corporate IT, IP addressing at scale, and bandwidth planning for video systems.

A modern camera or access control reader is a network endpoint first, and this module treats it that way: hierarchical access/distribution/core network architecture, why a dedicated security VLAN — isolated from the general corporate network — is baseline design rather than optional hardening, and the IP addressing and ONVIF-discovery considerations that keep a large device count manageable.

A worked bandwidth example ties per-camera bitrate to switch uplink sizing, and directly feeds Module 11's PoE power budgeting and Module 12's storage capacity calculations — the same bitrate that has to cross the network every second is also what has to be written to disk every second.
