Cyber-Physical Integration

The cybersecurity exposure of IP-based physical security systems — default credentials, unpatched firmware, network exposure — hardening practices, and the convergence of physical security and IT/cybersecurity teams.

A modern IP camera or access control panel is a networked computer first and a security device second — it runs firmware, it has an administrative credential, and it's reachable by anything else on the network unless deliberately segmented. This module treats that exposure as a real design requirement: the default-credential problem that drives most real-world device compromises, firmware/patch management over a device's service life, and network hardening practices that limit what a device can reach and be reached by.

It closes with where physical security and IT/cybersecurity teams genuinely need to converge — security devices belong in the same vulnerability management and asset inventory processes as any other networked asset, not treated as a siloed exception.
