Module 8 · Energy Management

Energy Management

Measurement & verification, baseline development, demand response participation, load shedding strategies, utility rate structures, energy dashboards, and ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager integration.

Module 7 covered where energy and utility data actually comes from. This module covers what a building does with it: proving a retrofit's savings against a defensible baseline, getting paid to shed load during a demand response event without producing a worse rebound spike than the event prevented, and reading a utility rate structure correctly enough that a control strategy targets the charge that is actually driving the bill.

By the end of this module you should be able to explain why "savings" is always a calculated, not measured, quantity under IPMVP, why a demand ratchet clause can make a single bad peak expensive for eleven months afterward, and why a dashboard built around vanity metrics fails the facilities operator it was supposedly built for.
