This module covers how a physical building becomes an accurate, dimensionally trustworthy dataset before any design or coordination work begins against it: the physics distinguishing laser scanning from photogrammetry, why target-based registration is more verifiable than pure cloud-to-cloud matching, and how a registered cloud actually gets modeled into usable BIM elements rather than left as an indexed but structure-less reference.

By the end of this module you should be able to explain why scan-to-BIM accuracy has to be agreed with the client before modeling starts, not decided ad hoc, and how the same underlying capability — a point cloud as physically measured ground truth — supports renovation documentation, as-built verification against a design model, and interval-based construction progress monitoring.
