Real Project: Multi-Discipline BIM Coordination for a Commercial Building

A 6-story, 128,000 sq ft office building case study — BEP and LOD setup, shared-coordinate model linking, a worked clash-detection triage workflow, two real clashes resolved (duct vs. beam, sprinkler main vs. grade beam), and the coordination meeting cycle through sign-off.

The project brief: five separate firms — architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing — each authoring an individually-correct model, into a 26 in ceiling plenum with no slack for two disciplines to discover, in the field, that they both intended to occupy the same space. This module walks the full coordination process a real controls-of-the-model lead would run: the BIM Execution Plan and LOD requirements that make coordination possible, shared-coordinate model linking, a structured weekly clash-detection and triage cycle, and the specific reasoning behind two real, worked clash resolutions.
