Real Project: Parametric Family & Component Library Development

A firm-wide content case study — auditing an ungoverned family library, defining a parameter and naming standard, building a nested-hardware parametric door family, cross-template testing, and rolling out the finished library with real governance.

The project brief: a 120-person architecture firm's family library has grown into roughly 2,400 ungoverned files — inconsistent parameters, inconsistent naming, and a long tail of geometrically overbuilt content quietly slowing down every model that loads it. This module walks the full content-engineering effort a BIM manager or content lead would actually run: a content audit that turns a vague complaint into a measurable performance case, a family creation standard covering shared parameters, naming, and LOD variants, a worked parametric door family with nested, schedulable hardware options, and the cross-template testing and governance model that keeps the finished library from decaying the same way the original one did.
