Clean Agent Systems

A data center or electrical room can't be protected with water without destroying the very equipment the fire is threatening — which is exactly the gap clean agent systems fill. This module works through the two clean agent families (halocarbons like FM-200/HFC-227ea and Novec 1230, and inert gas agents), the distinct mechanisms each uses to extinguish a fire without leaving residue or requiring cleanup, and the NFPA 2001 design concentration and safety factor calculation that determines how much agent a room actually needs.

It closes with room integrity (door fan) testing — the enclosure verification step that confirms a room can actually hold the design concentration long enough to be effective — and the applications, data centers and electrical rooms chief among them, where a clean agent system is the correct design choice over a water-based or foam system.
