Fire suppression work is split across three genuinely distinct credentials that this module is careful not to conflate: the PE fire protection license an engineer of record needs to stamp system design documents, NICET certification — a real, legitimate industry-standard credential — that technicians earn to demonstrate layout, inspection, and testing competence, and the state-issued contractor license a fire sprinkler contracting firm needs to install and service systems. Knowing which credential actually governs which task is itself a professional-practice skill.

It closes with the standard of care a fire protection engineer is held to specifically because this is life-safety design — the professional and often legal consequences of a system that fails during an actual fire are categorically different from most other engineering disciplines — and the core ethical obligation this program returns to repeatedly: never certify, sign, or approve a system as complete or compliant without having actually verified it.
