High-Rise Standpipe & Fire Pump System

A full worked combination standpipe and fire pump design for a 40-story tower — standpipe zoning, a per-zone pump sizing calculation, and pressure-reducing valve placement at the lower floors.

A 520 ft tower cannot be served by a single standpipe zone — this project works through exactly why, deriving the number of zones a real building needs from NFPA 14's 100 psi minimum and 175 psi maximum outlet pressure limits, then sizes a dedicated NFPA 20 fire pump for the hardest-case top zone with a full elevation-plus-friction calculation.

It closes with pressure-reducing valve placement at the specific lower floors where zone pump pressure would otherwise exceed the code-maximum outlet pressure, pump room requirements, and how the standpipe design coordinates with the building's sprinkler system on a shared zoned water supply.
