Installation

Pipe joining methods and hanger placement, seismic bracing per NFPA 13, fire pump and pump room installation per NFPA 20, valve and gauge installation, and the field errors that most often cause acceptance testing to fail.

This module picks up exactly where Module 13's approved drawing set leaves off and covers what happens when that design meets an actual building: joining methods and hanger spacing, lateral and longitudinal seismic sway bracing and where flexible couplings belong instead of rigid restraint, fire pump room requirements and suction/discharge/test-header piping arrangement, and the supervision and gauge placement every control valve depends on. It closes with the short, recurring list of field errors — missing hangers, field-installed ductwork obstructing a sprinkler, bracing run rigidly through a seismic joint — that account for the overwhelming majority of acceptance-test failures.

By the end of this module you should be able to explain why rough-in inspection, performed before piping is concealed, is a mandatory checkpoint rather than an optional step — the same discipline Module 15's acceptance testing depends on the installation actually having followed.
