Module 7's networks carry the data; this module is about what receives it and what an operator actually does with it. Building on that network foundation, this module works through the client-server SCADA architecture itself, the RTU's role and how it differs from a PLC deployed the same way, HMI deployment models, the historian's distinct job from the live database, and the alarm management, trending, and reporting disciplines built on top of it — closing with the redundancy strategies that keep a supervisory system running through a single server or network failure.
By the end of this module you should be able to explain why an under-designed alarm system is treated as a genuine engineering defect rather than an operating nuisance, and why hot standby and cold standby redundancy exist as two deliberately different answers to the same failover problem.
