Professional Engineering Practice

Functional Design Specifications, control narratives, cause-and-effect matrices, I/O lists, instrument indexes, cable schedules, FAT/SAT procedures, commissioning reports, O&M manuals, and change management — the document chain that turns a working PLC program into a professional deliverable.

A working automation system that only lives in one engineer's head, verified only by clicking through the HMI, isn't a professional deliverable. This module covers the actual document chain a real project is built and handed over on: a Functional Design Specification and control narrative that say what the system must do and exactly how, a cause-and-effect matrix that verifies safety and interlock logic cell by cell, an I/O list and instrument index that are the single source of truth for every physical point, and a cable schedule that turns a design into a buildable field installation.

It closes with the handover sequence every real project runs through — Factory and Site Acceptance Testing, the commissioning report, the O&M manual — and the Management of Change discipline that keeps all of it true for as long as the system actually operates, long after the original project team has moved on to the next job.
